MARIKEN STEEN x FERM LIVING

Our fourth collaboration for this collection is with the amazing and talented Norwegian designer Mariken Steen. Mariken Steen is a inter-diciplinary graphic artist. Her work often persue abstract concepts, such as memory, imagination and perception. By exploring variables and assemblies in various contexts, the mundane merges whith aesthetics and philosophy.

She graduated with a MA in visual communication in 2005,
and has over the years received national and international awards for both commissioned and self-initiated projects.

The Quartz series designed for us, is a collection of formations of inorganic solids, abstracted in an organic manner. We are super proud to have done this collaboration with Mariken.

PRAGHS HAVE

Sometimes you just have to walk out the door to find something extraordinary. That's what we did the other day when we literally walked across the street from our office to find this wonderful urban garden. Praghs Have (Pragh's Garden) is an urban garden project where locals are socializing by planting and harvesting their own vegetables, breeding chicken, eating together, making honey and much much more. Just our kind of place...

KRISTINA KROGH for FERM LIVING

Kristina Krogh is a Danish graphic designer and artist based in Copenhagen - educated as a graphic designer from the Graphic Arts Institute of Denmark in 2011.

History in her own words: "A year after my graduation a left my job as a graphic designer and waved goodbye to my comfort zone and started my own design studio, Kristina Krogh Studio. I was drawn to something else; to have my own space and hold on to some of the things that used to make me happy. I love the contrast and combination of working on my art and working on either graphic design projects or on digital projects.
I'll describe my work as a mix of what I love to do - I think that I constantly challenges myself and my own limitations. I'm experimenting with different things and methods. I don't put up limits for myself, because I like exploring and going in different directions."

For our MORE collection she made four wonderful illustrations specially designed for us, which we decided to print on 13 mm birch plywood. We are very thrilled about the collaboration. We hope you like the illustrations as much as we do...

ferm LIVING x INGELA P ARRHENIUS

Another great collaboration for this season is with this very talented Swedish lady, Ingela Peterson Arrhenius.

She began her career in the late eighties, working as a production assistant in various advertising agencies in Stockholm. Her original plan was to become a graphic designer or an art director, so she enrolled at Berghs School of Communication. During training, she came to realise that illustration was her true calling, as she tended to solve all of her school assignments with drawings.
"Since then I have been a member of three different freelance groups: the first one was Rithuset, after that Stockholm Illustration. Today I work in the Stockholm suburb Enskede, where I also live, in a fantastic studio along with illustrators, designers, journalists, photographers and translators," Ingela says.
During her early career, she worked with newspapers, publishers and advertising, now more often with products. Throughout the years she has worked on everything from children's books, stamps, cards and fabrics, to decorations for Stockholm department store NK and designs for bookshop Akademibokhandeln´s wrapping paper. A year ago, Ingela was approached by cosmetics giant Biotherm in Paris. Today her name appears on one of their collections and the company are also using her illustrations in their Christmas line.
"I've always liked nice things and a lot of my inspiration comes from visiting flea markets and antique shops. I’ll jump for joy on finding a nice old single-cover, a cooky little figure or a beautiful piece of porcelain - most preferably from the 50s and 60s. I always get a kick out of retro-inspired, graphic and colourful design, and have been faithful to it for 20 years," she says.

Ingela has put her touch on Wallpaper, KIDS bedding and textiles.
