Katharina Grosse at Arken, Ishøj, Denmark

The German artist Katharina Grosse created the sculpture The Other George as a complement to her UTOPIA show at ARKEN. This giant sculpture, measuring 650 x 850 x 1100 cm, is composed of 15 large pieces of styrene coated in fiberglass.

Rock-like in shape and spray-painted in bright synthetic colors, The Other George is a stark contrast to the sea and harbour next to ARKEN. The craggy sculpture received multiple applications of color with a spray gun and the paint is runny in places.

Unlike the fountain, the sculpture’s expression changes as you move around it. Its various pieces stick out in all directions, leaving gaps, large and small, in the sculpture. Despite its massive physical presence, there is a sense of lightness to the sculpture and it looks almost animated.

Giving her sculpture a “name” rather than a title, Grosse wants to reminds us that unexpected meetings with others – as in The Other George – can open our eyes to new possibilities and new ways of looking at the world.

An explosion of color, Grosse’s sculpture adds a fantastical element to the site of ARKEN. The artist’s intention with The Other George is to make us aware of our surroundings.

The sculpture will be installed in front of ARKEN from January - May 2010.

We, at the Studio, have always been in love with great graphic design. And this blog with old Letterheads made our friday afternoon a lot more fun.

If you are in Copenhagen, you should stop by at ILLUM Home at 3 floor. This month we have the pleasure of decorating the front area with a lot of ferm LIVING products.

Made us laugh hysterically. Very morbid, but insanely funny.

George Nelson, Edward Wormley, Eero Saarinen, Harry Bertoia, Charles Eames and Jens Risom in Playboy Magazine, July 1961.
For fans of Mid-Century modern design (like us), this classic image above from Playboy is like the Holy Grail. Design masters in their prime, beautifully captured in a time that was aesthetically crisp, uncluttered and innovative.

A little wednesday music treat for you all. Canadian Singer/Songwriter Feist with 1234. Cute song with a beautiful one-take video that shows a perfect combo of choreography and colours.

Another great way to use wallpaper leftovers! Saw this old dollhouse cabinet at an online auction and wanted to share this cute idea with you.

Saw this wonderful use of our Double Trouble wallpaper at our US blog. A girl named Deanne put it up in her sons bedroom, and we think the result is very cool and cute at the same time. Thanks! via

A great weekend in a great summer house with great friends. It was wonderful to walk in the rough nature, but also very cosy to sit inside their stylish summer house and listen to the rough wind outside.

It's monday again and after a long weekend due to public holiday we're back on track. And what is better than starting the day with some treatment for eyes and ears!
